Questions You Mustn’t Ask Candidates

There are some questions that you are not allowed to ask at interviews. It is important that you know what these types of questions are so you can avoid any negative repercussions from potentially disgruntled candidates.

The overarching rule is to avoid questions that delve into the personal life of candidates. Your questions should limit themselves only to work related matters such as relevant skills, knowledge, work history and attitude to work.

Examples of questions not to ask at interview include but are not limited to:

1. Marital status
2. Number of children
3. Future family plans
4. Sexual preference
5. Religion
6. Politics
7. Age
